She was hidden from the world. Then he arrived.
An emotional new novel from six-time USA Today bestselling author Deanna Roy
For four years, I’ve lived in almost total seclusion. Homeschooled, forbidden from social media, seeing no one other than the dancers at Dreamcatcher Academy, where I teach ballet to little girls in wheelchairs.
Then Blitz arrives.
He’s the disgraced host of Dance Blitz, a bawdy reality show where Blitz sleeps with as many dancers as possible while looking for his perfect partner.
At least he was. A few weeks ago, he got kicked off his own show.
He’s at my academy for a publicity stunt, and my wheelchair ballerinas are his ticket back into the public’s good graces.
I intend to hate him and stay as far away as possible. But when he looks at me, I can’t resist. Before I realize what’s happened, we’re sneaking into back rooms, dancing, kissing, planning dates away from the cameras and the wrath of my family.
But I’m afraid. I have a secret at the academy, a small, wonderful, terrible secret, and if I stay with Blitz, the world will find out
I received this book as part of the blog tour in exchange for an honest review – this does not alter my review or opinion of the book in any way.
I was really intrigued about this book because I am a major lover of dance and when I read that this book was a love story about dancers, I had to request to be on the tour.
We follow Livia, a nineteen-year-old who is a bit of a prisoner in her own life. Her dad doesn’t let her do anything in case she comes into contact with a boy. She was home-schooled and is probably going to end up going to an online college and being stuck at home forever. She endures this because of something in her past that made her dad become this way (not going to spoil it for you!) but her small pleasure is that she is allowed to attend ballet classes at a local dance academy.
While doing some practice, she meets a man named Benjamin – everyone calls him Blitz – and he is a star with his own reality-t.v. dancing show. The pair get to know each other and a love kindles between them. This love is forbidden in many ways, but that doesn’t stop them, and Livia is torn between being a good daughter or falling in love.
Livia’s character is sheltered but curious. She had a regular life before and now she is kept indoors and away from the outside world. I wanted to scream at her a lot of the time as she just keeps doing as her father says, even though she is an adult. He has kept her so sheltered and hidden that she knows nothing about the world or how to be her own person.
Benjamin ‘Blitz’ Craven is a Hollywood star who has been publicly shamed and comes to Texas to hide and do some things to get him back in the good books. He is crazy about Livia and they dance amazingly together, but their relationship has to be a secret and he hates it. I liked his character – most of the time. When he was with Livia he was a true gentleman. But once he had his show back and headed back to L.A he went back to his old self and that really hurt Livia.
I really did enjoy this book. The love between the two characters was refreshing and the fact that it was forbidden made it that much more exciting. The last 20% of the book had me on the edge of my seat and I was nervous, I didn’t know how it was going to end. But I must say, I loved the ending.
This book is a standalone but it also forms part of a series and I think I need to get my hands on the other books to see what is happening in the lives of Livia and Benjamin.
