Book Review #4 – Slammed

slammed

Title: Slammed

Author: Colleen Hoover

Published: 2012

Pages: 317

Layken’s father died suddenly, leaving her to gather every ounce of strength to be a pillar for her family, in order to prevent their world from falling apart. Now her life is taking another unexpected turn…

Layken’s mother gets a job which leads to an unwanted move across country. However, a new home means new neighbours…and Layken’s new neighbour is the very attractive Will Cooper.

Will has an intriguing passion for slam poetry, and a matching passion for life. The two feel an irresistible attraction but are rocked to the core when a shocking revelation brings their romance to a screeching halt. Layken and Will must find a way to fight the forces that threaten to tear them apart…or learn to live without each other.

Wow.

I think it is safe to say that I have found a new favourite in Colleen Hooper. I devoured this book in less than a day and loved every minute of it.

Layken, the protagonist of this story, is uprooted from everything she knows when her father dies and her mother gets a new job in a different state. She knows she will hate Michigan from the beginning, that is until she meets handsome neighbour, Will Cooper. Both Will and Layken have a younger brother, who are instant best friends the day of the move, and the two of them feel an instant connection.

Just when Layken is beginning to love her new home, some news comes to light that forces the two apart, and they both need to try and adapt to being only ‘friends’ which is next to impossible.

This book made me laugh and it made me cry. It is a love story and a tragedy all rolled into one and I absolutely loved it! I would recommend to everyone, and if you have never read anything by Colleen Hoover before, this will get you addicted to her!

I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads πŸ™‚
